Heth Haven is a small, privately funded organization on Saint Simons Island, permitted by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to rehabilitate small mammals, including rabies vector species (RVS). Thus far, the animals rehabilitated and released back into the wild include raccoons, opossums, bunnies and squirrels. Some are received as young as a couple of days old, some are injured, most are orphans. Their needs are varied, but usually start with rehydration and warmth. The supplies needed for these animals vary, depending on their age and condition. Some of the supplies needed include, but are not limited to:

• Housing (portable kennels)
• Liquids for rehydration (generally Pedialyte)
• Formula (KMR and Esbilac initially, canned evaporated milk when they are being weaned)
• Receiving blankets for bedding and handling
• Heating pads (without the 2-hour shutoff) for infants
• Feeding dishes that won't tip over easily
• Medications for wounds, worming and inoculations
Once they are old enough to be transferred outside, their needs change to things such as:
• Pine straw, straw, or hay for bedding
• Lumber for new caging or upkeep
• "Grownup" food, such as dry baby cereal, squirrel food, rabbit food, dry cat food, etc.
• Unsalted peanuts and mini marshmallows are a great treat, also.

Cash gifts are always appreciated to help with the many miscellaneous needs, such as cleaning supplies, cleaning rags, toys, rope, baby bottles and nipples, rice cereal and much more.
